Summer Experiential Program

UTSPA is once again pleased to be launching the popular Summer Experiential Program (SEP).

We are seeking volunteers to host students for short workplace experiences - from half a day, to a day, to a week or more. Help students experience a ‘day in the life’ of your work environment and share your knowledge, thoughts and insights in your field or industry.

Please sign up here to become an SEP Host.

SEP is a work placement experience aiming to give UTS students experience in different industry sectors through real-world working environments. Frequently Asked Questions are available below. You can also contact SEP Co-Leads at [email protected] and [email protected].

What is the Summer Experiential Program (SEP)?

SEP aims to give UTS students short work experiences (from a half day to a week) in different sectors to witness real-world working environments. In summer 2025, SEP hosts will have the opportunity to chaperone UTS students to immerse in a typical workday to help them gain a better understanding of what a career could look like in your industry.

Who are SEP hosts?

The SEP relies on generous UTS parents and alumni who since 2017 have helped support the program hosting students on work-related experiences.  A big ‘thank you’ to all who have hosted in the past. We are looking to recruit new and existing volunteers to make Summer 2025 a big success!

How long will the student(s) work with you during SEP?

This is totally up to the host. Students benefit from experiences of just a half day (2 – 3 hours), to a full working day, to multiple days or a week.  All options are fine. You can indicate the length when you sign up as a SEP host.

When is the ‘hosting period’ during Summer 2025 SEP?

Ideally, you can host the student(s) in July 2025.

How many students can a SEP host have?

From one student to a group of students, you can indicate how many students you’d like to host when you sign up. However, up to 4 students for in-person experiences and up to 10 students for virtual have the best outcome, based on our past experience.

What activities students usually do in SEP?

Student involvement can be as hands-on as you think appropriate.  It can be simply job shadowing. Or it can be attending meetings, career outlook seminars, performing basic administrative assistance, research, coding, financial modeling, coordinating, project-based activities. In short, any workplace activities which can benefit students’ decisions on choosing their career path would be welcome.

What industry sectors SEP covered in the past?

Banking, law, medical science, pharmaceuticals, investments, finance, marketing, media, computer technology, chemical science, non-profits, social work, education, etc.

What are the Grades of UTS students who participate in SEP?

Most of the SEP students are from S5 and M4.

Are session available in-person or virtual?

For this year’s SEP (Summer 2025), in-person placements are preferred for our students, but hosts can still choose from both formats. You can indicate your preference when you sign up.
