Community Connections offers a welcoming affinity space for prospective students and families from historically underrepresented communities to connect with current students, families, and staff.
Navigating a new school can be challenging. Community Connections creates opportunities to share ideas and considerations about the application and admissions process at UTS. After admissions, Community Connections meets three to four times per year to discuss experiences, ask questions and share opportunities with and for UTS families.
UTS Community Connections brings together incoming families and current UTS families, alumni and staff, who self-identify as Indigenous and/or Black.
We invite past, present, and future members of the UTS community to join and help build community connections.
If you are an alum or current student or family, you can join here.
If your student is thinking about applying to UTS, you can access Community Connections for support.
Kim Tavares guides our progress as UTS strives to create a greater culture of inclusion. She builds upon recommendations made by Dr. Avis Glaze OOnt in her 2022 report: Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion: Our Shared Responsibility. Kim’s mandate is to support our evolving educational programming to foster greater equity and inclusion as well as building partnerships to further this work. Her role intersects with and impacts nearly every area of our academic program and operations. She is also leading our commitment to increasing representation at UTS among traditionally underrepresented groups, ensuring that all students feel affirmed and truly welcome at our school. She instills equity as a mindset within all that we do.
