Don Gutteridge, fondly known as ‘Mr. G’, joined UTS as a teacher in 1961 and served as principal from 1972 to 1983. He was the 2012 recipient of the H.J. Crawford Award, cited for ‘his profound dedication to education ideals and forward-thinking vision.’ He was a treasured member of the UTS community for over 60 years – remaining active in the UTS community well into his retirement through his advocacy, volunteerism, participation in school and alumni events and financial support of the school.
Changes that Don initiated at UTS were transformative – he spearheaded a variety of activities to promote diversity with the community including the introduction of girls changing the school and its direction for generations to come. He was a stalwart supporter with an unwavering commitment to UTS. Don will be missed.
The Donald Gutteridge and Anne Millar Bursary has been established to benefit UTS students through financial aid. This is a fitting legacy for Don, whose belief in equity was ahead of his time and made such a difference in the life and future of the school and its students. Through this bursary, Don's estate, his family and friends, colleagues and alumni can support his long-standing commitment to a merit-based admission process regardless of financial means.
Thank you for your donation in memory of Don.
